Neuropsychological rehabilitation

Neuropsychology is the experimental and clinical discipline that studies the relationships between the nervous system and its mechanisms on the one hand and mental and cognitive processes on the other, under normal and pathological conditions.

Neuropsychological rehabilitation is a set of therapeutic interventions based on models and knowledge from clinical and experimental research, which aim is to reduce neuropsychological deficits. Neuropsychological rehabilitation plays a strategic role in attempting to reduce disability and promote social reintegration in a variety of relevant pathologies, such as cerebrovascular diseases, TBI, multiple sclerosis, dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Cognitive trainings aim at strengthening a specific cognitive function (e.g. memory, attention, language) and involve the teaching of a strategy to train the targeted cognitive function.

Cognitive Stimulation: unlike cognitive training, it aims to recover a damaged cognitive ability and involves various intervention strategies useful to cope with the difficulties that the person encounters in everyday life. Generally such interventions are provided with an individualized approach, specific personal goals are identified to improve performance and promote the recovery of impaired skills.

Cognitive Rehabilitation promotes the reactivation of cognitive and social functioning, through involvement in various individual or group activities.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation is a strategic approach that operates for the individual, his interpersonal network and the broader social context in which he/she lives. Its main objective are to implement actions and interventions aimed at reducing the risk factors and psychosocial vulnerability related to mental disorders, which cause the development and maintenance of social disability.
